This commercial gas ACS course provides full initial or renewal certification for working on commercial natural gas systems, including pipework, radiant tube heaters, and indirect-fired appliances. Includes COCN1, CORT1, CIGA1, and ICPN1.
The Commercial Gas Core Package at Vulcana Training is the complete ACS route for engineers working on commercial natural gas installations. It includes four core commercial modules: COCN1 (core gas safety), CORT1 (overhead radiant tube heaters), CIGA1 (indirect-fired appliances), and ICPN1 (installation of commercial pipework).
Important Note:
COCN1 is a standalone core qualification. Unlike the CODNCO changeover route, COCN1 does not depend on a current CCN1 certificate. Once achieved, it remains valid independently of any domestic qualifications.
This course includes refresher training followed by written and practical assessments for all included modules. Testing and purging (TPCP1/TPCP1A) is not included and must be booked separately.
COCN1 – Core Commercial Gas Safety
Commercial gas safety principles, including:
Legislation, emergency procedures, unsafe situations
Pipework installation, tightness testing, flueing and ventilation
Combustion analysis and fault diagnosis
CORT1 – Overhead Radiant Tube Heaters
Installation and servicing of radiant tube heating systems commonly found in warehouses and large open commercial spaces.
CIGA1 – Indirect-Fired Appliances
Covers indirect-fired commercial air heating units, including commissioning, servicing and fault finding.
ICPN1 – First Fix Commercial Pipework (up to 150mm)
Installation of steel and copper pipework in commercial environments, including sizing, routing and testing prior to appliance connection.
TPCP1 and/or TPCP1A – Testing and purging (booked separately)
Additional commercial modules (e.g. CDGA1, CCLP1) can be added as needed
This route is for engineers who:
Are undertaking their first commercial assessment, or
Previously held COCN1 but it expired over 12 months ago
You must:
Hold a recognised gas qualification (e.g. CCN1 or completed a Commercial MLP)
Be registered with Gas Safe for at least 12 months (where applicable)
Provide evidence of qualifications and registration when booking
You may take the reassessment route if:
You currently hold COCN1, or
It expired within the last 12 months
If it has been more than 12 months since expiry, the initial assessment route applies.
