The OFT21-504A + OFT21-504G course package at Vulcana Training provides comprehensive training in both air source and ground source heat pump installations. Engineers will learn how to design, install and maintain these systems safely and in compliance with MCS and building regulations.
The course is well suited to installers working in off-grid areas, new-builds or self-build projects, where renewable systems are in demand.
Overview of ASHP and GSHP technology
Ground loops, boreholes and collector installation
System control, buffer vessels and hydraulic layouts
Heat emitter compatibility and efficiency
Fault finding and performance testing
Includes refresher content followed by practical and written assessment for both technologies.
OFT21-504D – Heat Pump System Design
Recommended for those specifying systems for MCS compliance or working in design roles.
This course is classed as an initial assessment. To attend, candidates must meet one of the following:
Hold a recognised qualification and/or registration in heating/plumbing for at least two years, and
Hold current WRAS and UVHW certificates
Or
Have two years of verified experience in heating system installation/maintenance, and
Hold current WRAS and UVHW certificates
Missing one or both? Add for £150 + VAT each. The course duration will be extended accordingly.

All our courses include refresher training and are delivered in a supportive setting to help you feel confident and well-prepared for assessment.
Yes, training manuals and certificates are included in the course fees, except for OFTEC reassessment course training material, where are charged separately.
Any required study materials will be provided on the first day of your course. However, if you prefer to collect them in advance, you can do so by making prior arrangements with us.
With a 99.9% pass rate, it’s unlikely—but if you don’t pass, we’ll discuss your options, including reassessment and additional training if needed.
