The OFT21-504A Air Source Heat Pump Installation course at Vulcana Training is designed for experienced plumbing and heating engineers looking to work with air source heat pump systems. It covers all aspects of system design, installation, commissioning, servicing and fault diagnosis in line with current MCS standards and building regulations.
Air source heat pumps are a key technology in the move towards low-carbon heating. This course provides the skills needed to work safely and compliantly in both retrofit and new-build properties.
Heat pump principles and low-temperature heating
System components, pipework and installation techniques
Electrical integration and system control
Commissioning, servicing and troubleshooting
Compliance with building regulations and MCS standards
Includes structured refresher training followed by practical and theory-based assessment.

Add-on modules can be taken alongside this course or booked separately depending on your development path.
This course is classed as an initial assessment. To attend, candidates must meet one of the following:
Hold a nationally recognised qualification and/or registration in a trade related to heating or plumbing for at least two years, and
Hold valid Water Regulations (WRAS) and Unvented Hot Water (UVHW) certificates
Or
Have at least two years of on-the-job experience in heating installation or maintenance, and
Hold valid WRAS and UVHW certificates
If you do not currently hold WRAS or UVHW, these can be added to your booking for £150 + VAT each, and your course duration will be extended by one day per module.
This course is for new or upskilling candidates only. There is currently no reassessment route for OFT21-504A.
All our courses include refresher training and are delivered in a supportive setting to help you feel confident and well-prepared for assessment.
Yes, training manuals and certificates are included in the course fees, except for OFTEC reassessment course training material, where are charged separately.
Any required study materials will be provided on the first day of your course. However, if you prefer to collect them in advance, you can do so by making prior arrangements with us.
With a 99.9% pass rate, it’s unlikely—but if you don’t pass, we’ll discuss your options, including reassessment and additional training if needed.
