Course Overview

The OFTEC Combination Package + 102 at Vulcana Training provides engineers with a comprehensive qualification in oil-fired heating systems, fuel storage, and cooking appliances. This course includes the core oil modules: OFT101 (oil safety and practices), OFT105e (pressure jet appliances such as boilers), and OFT600a (oil storage and supply systems). These form the foundation for working safely and legally on domestic oil heating systems.

In addition, this package includes OFT102, which enables engineers to work on oil-fired range cookers, such as Agas and Rayburns – commonly found in rural and off-grid properties.

Training is supported with refresher content across all modules, followed by written and practical assessments. On successful completion, candidates will be eligible for OFTEC registration covering boilers, tanks, and cookers.

Course Modules / Elements:

  • OFT101 – Oil Safety and Practices
    Core module covering oil combustion principles, ventilation, oil supply, and compliance.

  • OFT105e – Pressure Jet Appliances
    Focuses on domestic boilers and pressure jet appliances, including servicing and commissioning.

  • OFT600a – Oil Storage and Supply Systems
    Covers tank installation, oil line configurations, and environmental regulations.

  • OFT102 – Oil-Fired Range Cookers
    Includes the installation, servicing, and commissioning of oil-fired cooking appliances such as Agas and Rayburns.

Each module includes refresher content followed by practical and written assessments.

Engineers completing this extended OFTEC package can also consider expanding into solid fuel with the following options:

  • Solid Fuel Wet & Dry System (2 Days)
    Covers the installation, servicing and maintenance of both dry appliances (such as stoves) and wet appliances connected to central heating systems.

  • Solid Fuel Dry Only (2 Days)
    Focuses solely on dry appliances with no water-based components.

  • Solid Fuel Wet Only (1 Day)
    For those working on appliances connected to water heating systems, such as solid fuel boilers.

These modules are ideal for engineers looking to offer a wider range of heating solutions in off-grid or rural homes.

Initial Assessment Prerequisites

This course is suitable for engineers who:

  • Previously held them but they expired over 12 months ago

Candidates must have experience in plumbing, heating, or a similar trade. Proof of experience or previous qualifications is required at the time of booking.

Reassessment Prerequisites

You can take the reassessment route if:

  • Your OFT101, 105e, 600a and 102 certificates are still valid, or

  • They expired within the past 12 months

If your qualifications are out of date by more than 12 months, the initial route will apply.

Yes, training manuals and certificates are included in the course fees, except for OFTEC reassessment course training material, where are charged separately.

Any required study materials will be provided on the first day of your course. However, if you prefer to collect them in advance, you can do so by making prior arrangements with us.

With a 99.9% pass rate, it’s unlikely—but if you don’t pass, we’ll discuss your options, including reassessment and additional training if needed.

  • Your Gas Safe card or another official form of ID
  • Your current qualifications
  • If you are sitting an initial assessment, please check the initial assessment prerequisite section for specific requirements
  • If you are sitting a reassessment, please bring a copy of your current or recently expired certificate
